Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on Monday that Pakistan will host the signing ceremony of a historic peace deal between the United States and Iran. The event is set for Friday, June 19, in Geneva, Switzerland.
Speaking in the National Assembly, Sharif called the agreement a breakthrough. He said both countries have agreed to end all fighting, including in Lebanon. This comes after a three-month war that started earlier this year and affected the Middle East and global economy.
Pakistan played an important role in helping the two sides talk and reach this deal. Sharif thanked the Pakistani Army Chief Asim Munir for his efforts. He also congratulated US President Donald Trump and Iranian leaders.
The deal includes a permanent ceasefire, reopening the Strait of Hormuz for safe shipping, and steps to ease US sanctions on Iran. Iran has promised no nuclear weapons and to clear mines. In return, the US will lift its naval blockade and release some frozen assets. Further talks on nuclear issues will take place over the next 60 days.
This news has brought hope for peace in the region. Oil prices have already started to fall as markets react positively. Many countries see Pakistan’s role as a sign of its growing importance in world diplomacy.
Sharif said the “sun of peace” has risen. Pakistan will lead its delegation at the Geneva ceremony. The world is watching this event closely as a step toward greater stability.
