Pakistan has launched its first purpose-built, AI-ready data center campus, marking a major milestone in the country’s digital transformation and growing artificial intelligence sector.
The facility, known as Karakoram-01, was launched by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during a ceremony in Islamabad. The campus has been developed by Sky47 Limited, a majority-owned subsidiary of Mari Energies through Mari Technologies.
Karakoram-01 is designed to support artificial intelligence, cloud computing, high-performance computing, and mission-critical digital services. The facility is expected to provide the infrastructure needed by businesses, technology companies, and organizations that require secure and powerful computing capabilities.
The launch is being seen as an important step toward building Pakistan’s domestic AI and cloud infrastructure. Having advanced data centers inside the country can help organizations process and store data locally while supporting the development of new digital services.
