Iran is set to strengthen its air defense capabilities after reports indicated that it will receive Chinese-made shoulder-fired air defense missile systems in the coming weeks. The reported shipment is aimed at enhancing the country’s ability to defend against low-flying aircraft, helicopters, and drones amid ongoing regional security tensions.
According to reports, the agreement involves the delivery of 300 to 400 man-portable air defense systems (MANPADS), including the QW-12 and FN-16 missile systems. The deal is reportedly valued at $60–70 million and is expected to bolster Iran’s short-range air defense network.
The planned delivery comes as Iran seeks to reinforce its military defenses following months of heightened tensions and attacks on key military infrastructure. Defense analysts say the portable missile systems would improve the country’s ability to respond quickly to aerial threats and provide greater flexibility for frontline forces.
However, the reported transfer remains politically sensitive. Chinese officials have publicly denied involvement in any such weapons shipment, while other governments mentioned in reports have also rejected claims of assisting with the transfer.
