Iran’s Defence Ministry spokesperson Reza Talaei-Nik said on Tuesday that the United States is no longer in a position to dictate its policies to independent nations. He urged Washington to accept the reality and abandon its illegal and irrational demands. The statement was made on Iranian state television.
Talaei-Nik spoke ahead of a defence ministers’ meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). He added that Iran is ready to share its defensive military capabilities and experiences with other independent countries, especially SCO members. He even mentioned sharing the “experiences of America’s defeat.”
The comments came as Washington is reviewing a new proposal from Tehran. Iran has offered to end its restrictions on the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for the US lifting its blockade on Iranian ports and ending the current conflict. The proposal reportedly puts off talks about Iran’s nuclear programme until later. US President Donald Trump and his team have discussed the plan, but reports say Trump is not happy with it because it delays nuclear issues.
Tensions between Iran and the US have lasted for many years. The two sides often disagree over Iran’s nuclear activities, US sanctions, and Iran’s role in the region. Iran has always stressed its sovereignty and its right to resist outside pressure.
This latest statement shows Iran’s firm belief that the world is changing. With rising powers like China and Russia, and groups such as the SCO and BRICS, many countries now feel they have more choices and do not have to follow US demands alone.
