PAKISTAN PETROLEUM LIMITED DISCOVERS GAS RESERVE IN SINDH

by Hameed

Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has made an important discovery of gas and condensate at the Pateji-X1 well, located in the Shah Bandar Block in Sujawal district, Sindh. This is the fourth consecutive successful discovery in the block, where PPL has a 63% working interest. Its partners in the joint venture include Mari Petroleum Company Limited (32%), Sindh Energy Holding Company Limited, and Government Holdings (Private) Limited (2.5%).

Initial exploration revealed gas in the Upper Sand (D-Sand) layer, and further drilling led to the discovery of a promising hydrocarbon zone in the C-Sand layer. The tests show that the well can produce 12.4 million cubic feet of gas per day (mmcfd) and 196 barrels of condensate per day (bbl/d), with a wellhead pressure of 2,551 pounds per square inch (PSI).

Drilling at Pateji-X1 began on October 11, 2024, after thorough geological and geophysical studies. The well reached a depth of 2,475 meters, targeting the Lower Goru Formation.

This discovery highlights PPL’s technical skill and dedication to strengthening Pakistan’s energy security. The new reserves are expected to increase the country’s domestic hydrocarbon production, reduce reliance on expensive energy imports, and save foreign exchange reserves. PPL’s efforts in this field are crucial for the nation’s energy needs and economic growth.
