The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has announced a historic milestone for 2025, reporting record recoveries of Rs. 6.13 trillion, the highest in its history. Officials highlighted that this achievement also marks the largest single-year recovery by any accountability body globally, reflecting strengthened oversight and asset recovery mechanisms.

According to NAB, the total recoveries included Rs. 56.11 billion in direct recoveries and a substantial Rs. 6.074 trillion in indirect recoveries, primarily driven by the reclamation of 2.9 million acres of state and forest land valued at Rs. 5.92 trillion. These efforts demonstrate the bureau’s continued focus on recovering misappropriated public assets and protecting national resources.

In addition to reclaiming assets, NAB distributed Rs. 164.91 billion among more than 70,000 victims of financial fraud and housing scams, providing relief to citizens affected by corrupt practices. Officials stated that these measures not only deter corruption but also strengthen public confidence in institutional accountability.

NAB’s chairman emphasized that these achievements were made possible through systematic investigations, strict monitoring, and collaboration with provincial authorities. He also noted that the bureau aims to sustain this momentum by implementing modern technology, improving traceability of assets, and enhancing inter-agency cooperation.

Analysts have described 2025 as a landmark year for Pakistan’s accountability and anti-corruption initiatives. The record recovery underlines the country’s efforts to address historical financial mismanagement, reclaim public wealth, and ensure justice for victims. NAB’s success sets a precedent for accountability agencies worldwide and reinforces Pakistan’s commitment to transparency and governance reform.
