Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed full support for Pakistan’s shift towards solar energy, calling it the cheapest form of electricity in the world. He shared these views during the launch of the new mobile application “Apna Meter, Apni Reading,” designed to give power consumers more control and ensure fair electricity billing.
The app allows users to track and manage their electricity usage and will be available in five different languages. The Prime Minister said this feature will help promote better communication and harmony among Pakistan’s provinces. He also announced the removal of the PTV fee from electricity bills, offering some financial relief to consumers.
While speaking at the event, Shehbaz Sharif praised the Ministry of Energy for important reforms. These include fair and merit-based appointments in power distribution companies (DISCOs) and strict actions to curb corruption.
The Prime Minister also addressed the government’s efforts to lower electricity prices. After intense negotiations with Independent Power Producers (IPPs), the cost of electricity for households has been reduced to Rs7.41 per unit. He noted that this cut is a major achievement and part of a broader plan to build a stable and affordable power system for the country.
Shehbaz Sharif said these measures are all steps toward long-term change. He encouraged the public to use the new app and continue supporting clean energy, especially solar power, to help Pakistan move toward energy independence.
