China Eastern Airlines has announced a new service that it calls the world’s longest direct flight, linking Shanghai, China, with Buenos Aires, Argentina. The route will officially begin operations on December 4.
The journey is an ambitious one, stretching across nearly 12,000 miles. On the return trip from Buenos Aires to Shanghai, the total travel time can extend to an astonishing 29 hours, making it one of the most demanding commercial flights in the world.
Interestingly, while the airline describes it as a “direct flight,” the journey includes a planned two-hour stop in Auckland, New Zealand. During this break, passengers will be allowed to step off the aircraft, stretch their legs, and refresh themselves before continuing on to Argentina.
