Pakistan has made a big move toward better and faster internet by becoming part of the SEA-ME-WE 6 submarine cable system. The new undersea cable has officially landed in Pakistan, marking an important milestone for the country’s digital future.
SEA-ME-WE 6 is a 19,200 km long fibre-optic network that connects Pakistan with many countries, starting from Singapore and stretching all the way to France. It is one of the world’s most advanced internet cables and can handle more than 100 terabits per second of data.
Pakistan has secured 13.2 terabits per second (Tbps) from this system. Out of this, 4 Tbps has already been activated, which will immediately help improve internet speed and stability across the country. This increased bandwidth will support cloud services, data centres, fintech platforms, e-commerce, and online streaming.
One of the biggest advantages of SEA-ME-WE 6 is its double capacity compared to older systems. It also offers lower latency, meaning faster loading times, better online communication, and smoother live streaming. In addition, it provides stronger protection against faults and disruptions, giving Pakistan a more reliable internet backbone.
This new development is expected to boost digital growth, support businesses, and enhance technology services across the country.
With SEA-ME-WE 6, Pakistan has taken a major step toward a faster, smarter, and more secure digital future.
