Rawalpindi is set to see major improvements on one of its busiest roads as the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) moves forward with a Rs. 9 billion project to upgrade Murree Road. The plan covers the stretch from Saddar to Faizabad, a corridor known for heavy traffic and long delays during peak hours.
The project includes building new service lanes between Liaquat Bagh and Chandni Chowk, which will help manage local traffic and reduce congestion on the main road. In addition, the entire main road will undergo rehabilitation, including resurfacing and repairing worn-out areas. This is particularly important as Murree Road hasn’t been fully re-carpeted since 2014, causing safety issues and slowing down traffic.
A large portion of the budget will be allocated for land acquisition. This will allow the authorities to widen the road and add extra lanes, which is expected to significantly reduce daily traffic jams and make commuting faster for residents. Proper drainage, pedestrian crossings, and improved signage are also part of the plan to ensure smoother and safer travel.
The RDA is currently awaiting final approval for funding from the Punjab government before work can begin. Once approved, the project is expected to provide a modern and safer road network that meets the growing demands of Rawalpindi’s residents and businesses.
Local citizens and commuters have welcomed the announcement, hoping that the upgrade will make daily travel on Murree Road easier and more convenient while reducing long-standing traffic problems in the city.
