Customer Claims PakWheels Staff Tried to Sell Meter Tampered Car in Islamabad

by Mahnoor Arif

A customer in Islamabad has raised serious concerns over an alleged attempt to sell a meter tampered vehicle through PakWheels’ Managed Car platform, triggering debate around inspection standards and transparency in Pakistan’s used car market.

According to the buyer, a Honda City 2022 was listed on PakWheels with a high inspection rating, suggesting the car was in excellent condition. The vehicle was reportedly handled by a senior PakWheels employee who claimed personal ownership, which initially helped build trust with the buyer. However, doubts emerged during final verification before completing the purchase.

Service records obtained from an authorized dealership reportedly showed the car had covered significantly more kilometers than what was displayed on the odometer. In addition, ownership documents allegedly indicated that the vehicle had previously been registered under a third party, contradicting claims made during negotiations. These inconsistencies raised red flags about possible meter tampering and misrepresentation.

When confronted with the findings, the seller reportedly canceled the deal and returned the buyer’s funds. While the immediate financial loss was avoided, the incident has sparked wider concern among car buyers who rely on inspection reports and managed listings to avoid fraud.

Pakistan’s used car market has long struggled with issues such as odometer rollback, undocumented repairs, and false ownership claims. Platforms like PakWheels introduced managed listings and inspection services to address these problems and build buyer confidence. Incidents like this, if proven, risk damaging that trust.

Experts advise buyers to independently verify service history, ownership records, and mileage, even when dealing with well known platforms. The case has prompted calls for stricter internal oversight, clearer accountability, and stronger verification processes to ensure consumer protection.
