Pakistan has announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 International series against Sri Lanka, bringing back all-rounder Shadab Khan after his recovery from shoulder surgery. The selection marks an important step in Pakistan’s preparations for the ICC T20 World Cup scheduled to begin in February.

Salman Ali Agha will continue to lead the side as captain, as the team management sticks with its rotation policy. Under this approach, senior players Babar Azam and Shaheen Shah Afridi have been rested for the Sri Lanka series to manage workload and assess bench strength.

Shadab Khan’s return adds balance to the squad with his experience in both batting and leg spin bowling. His comeback is seen as a boost, especially as Pakistan looks to fine tune combinations ahead of the global tournament.

Selectors are using the three match series as a testing ground to evaluate new players and tactical options. Uncapped wicketkeeper batter Khawaja Nafay has received his first call up, signaling the management’s intent to broaden the talent pool and give opportunities to emerging players.

The series will be played in Dambulla, with matches scheduled for January 7, 9, and 11. Playing in Sri Lankan conditions is expected to help players adapt to similar pitches they may encounter during the World Cup.

Team officials have stated that the focus remains on building a flexible squad with depth in all departments. The Sri Lanka series will play a key role in finalizing Pakistan’s strategy as they move closer to the ICC T20 World Cup.
