Today, April 21, 2026, the nation is observing the 88th death anniversary of Allama Muhammad Iqbal, the great poet, philosopher, and thinker known as the “Poet of the East.”

Allama Iqbal was born on November 9, 1877, in Sialkot. He studied in Lahore, Cambridge, and Germany, and earned a PhD in philosophy. He wrote beautiful poetry in Urdu and Persian that awakened Muslims and gave them new hope and confidence.

Through his poems and speeches, especially the famous Allahabad Address of 1930, Iqbal presented the idea of a separate homeland for the Muslims of the subcontinent. His vision later helped Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and other leaders create Pakistan.

Iqbal passed away on April 21, 1938, in Lahore at the age of 60. He is buried near the Badshahi Mosque, where thousands of people attended his funeral.

On this day, the President, Prime Minister, and political leaders are paying rich tributes to Allama Iqbal. Special events, seminars, and programs are being held across the country in schools, colleges, and public places to remember his message of self-respect, unity, and hard work.

His poetry continues to inspire millions of Pakistanis even today. People believe that following Iqbal’s thoughts can help build a strong and united Pakistan.
