Pakistan has set an ambitious target to export halal meat worth $520 million to Malaysia over the next five years, marking a major step toward expanding agricultural exports and earning foreign exchange. The plan focuses on strengthening trade ties with Malaysia while positioning Pakistan as a reliable supplier in the global halal meat market.
According to officials, the export target includes around 130,000 metric tons of meat. To meet this demand, an estimated 552,000 livestock animals will be required. The project will be supported by a total investment of $140 million, with $80 million coming from the private sector and $60 million from the government. This public private partnership aims to modernize meat production, processing, and export facilities.
The government has declared halal meat a priority export sector due to its strong global demand and Pakistan’s large livestock base. Officials believe the initiative will not only boost exports but also improve standards in meat processing, cold chain logistics, and quality control.
The export plan is expected to create new growth opportunities for local farmers, breeders, and investors. Increased demand for livestock will support rural incomes and encourage better animal health and farming practices. At the same time, investors are likely to benefit from expanded processing and export infrastructure.
Malaysia is considered a key market for halal products, and Pakistan aims to build long term trade cooperation through consistent quality and supply. Officials say this initiative reflects Pakistan’s broader focus on agriculture and livestock development.
By expanding halal meat exports, Pakistan is taking a strategic step toward diversifying exports, strengthening international trade relations, and increasing its presence in the global halal food industry.
