Pakistan recorded its highest ever number of passport issuances in 2025, with more than 5.57 million passports issued nationwide, according to official data from the Directorate of Passports and Immigration.

A total of 5,572,013 passports were issued during the year, marking a major improvement in service delivery and processing capacity. Officials credit the achievement to administrative reforms, modern printing systems, and strict monitoring under the leadership of the Director General of Passports, following directives from the Prime Minister and the Interior Minister.

Breakdown figures show that 3,275,263 normal passports were issued in 2025. Urgent category passports accounted for 1,839,487 cases, while 276,789 passports were issued under the fast track service. The figures reflect growing public demand for quicker processing, especially among overseas workers, students, and frequent travelers.

One of the key changes was the expansion of passport office working hours. Several offices across the country shifted to extended and 24 hour operations, which helped clear long standing backlogs and reduced waiting times for applicants. The introduction of additional modern printers also played a central role in speeding up production.

Officials say the rising demand for e passports further pushed the system toward modernization. E passports offer improved security features and faster immigration processing, aligning Pakistan with international travel standards.

The record number of passports issued in 2025 is being seen as a major step forward in reforming public services. Authorities believe continued digital upgrades and capacity building will further improve efficiency and public trust in the passport system in the coming years.
