For First Time Since 1967! Al-Aqsa Mosque Closed During Last 10 Days of Ramadan

by Mahnoor Arif

The historic Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem has remained closed to worshippers for more than ten days, according to several media reports. Israeli authorities said the restrictions were introduced because of security concerns in the area.

The closure has affected religious practices during the final and most important days of Ramadan. For the first time since 1967, many Muslims have been unable to perform Taraweeh prayers and observe I’tikaf inside the mosque during the last ten nights of the holy month. These nights are considered especially significant for worship and reflection.

Reports say worshippers who arrived for prayers were not allowed to enter the main mosque building. Instead, many gathered in the outer courtyards of the compound to perform their prayers. Some people also prayed in nearby streets and public spaces.

Al-Aqsa Mosque is one of the holiest sites in Islam and holds deep religious and historical importance for Muslims around the world. The mosque complex has often been at the center of political and security tensions in the region.

Observers say the current restrictions reflect the wider tensions in the area. Religious leaders and international groups have called for calm and urged authorities to ensure worshippers can access the site while maintaining security.
