Pakistan’s First Fully Cashless Bazaar Launched in Islamabad

by Mahnoor Arif

Islamabad has taken a major step toward becoming the country’s first fully digital city with the launch of Pakistan’s first cashless weekly bazaar in Sector H-9. The initiative marks a significant milestone in the nation’s shift toward modern, technology-driven commerce.

The cashless bazaar was inaugurated by CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa, alongside representatives from the State Bank of Pakistan, Zindigi, and the district administration. Under the new system, customers can complete all their purchases through digital payment methods, eliminating the need for cash. To encourage adoption, shoppers are also being offered special discounts for making cashless transactions.

According to CDA officials, the move aims to increase convenience for citizens, strengthen transaction transparency, and enhance security within public marketplaces. Digital payments are expected to reduce theft risks, improve record-keeping, and streamline financial flows for both vendors and customers.

Following the successful rollout at H-9, the CDA plans to expand the cashless ecosystem to commercial centers, hospitals, restaurants, and even Islamabad Airport. This broader expansion aligns with the government’s vision of transforming Islamabad into Pakistan’s first fully digital capital.

The launch of this cashless bazaar signals a promising shift toward smarter urban services, encouraging residents to embrace digital financial tools and supporting the country’s journey toward a modern digital economy.
