Babusar-Naran Road Becomes a Winter Wonderland, Closed to All Traffic

by Mahnoor Arif

The Babusar–Naran Road has been closed to all traffic following heavy snowfall and extreme cold, Deputy Commissioner Diamer, Attaur Rehman Kakhar, announced on November 29. Babusar Top and nearby areas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have become hazardous, with slippery roads making travel unsafe.

Authorities have not started snow-clearing operations yet, and security forces in Diamer and surrounding regions have been recalled to ensure safety. Travelers and locals are strongly advised to avoid the area until conditions improve. The closure comes as winter sets in, making the mountainous road particularly risky for drivers.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted cold and dry weather across much of the country. Mountainous areas, including Babusar and Naran, are expected to face severe chill, especially during early mornings and late evenings. In addition to snow, dense fog is forecasted in the region, which can further reduce visibility and increase the risk of accidents.

Officials stress that the road will remain closed until authorities confirm that it is safe for travel. Visitors planning trips to Naran or surrounding tourist destinations are urged to reschedule their travel and stay updated with official announcements.

The Babusar–Naran Road is a popular route for tourists and locals alike, offering scenic views of the mountains and valleys. However, safety remains the top priority, and the closure is necessary to prevent accidents and ensure the well-being of travelers. Residents and tourists are advised to take precautions, follow weather updates, and avoid unnecessary travel in affected areas.
