Pakistan’s aviation sector welcomed a new domestic airline on Monday, November 25, 2025, with the official launch of South Air. The airline aims to make air travel affordable and accessible for people living in smaller towns and remote regions across the country.

At the inaugural ceremony in Multan, Chairman Senate Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani called the launch a historic step, saying the airline would help bridge long-standing gaps between major cities and underserved regions in South Punjab, interior Sindh, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

South Air’s first commercial flight operates from Karachi to Multan, with plans to expand its network as the airline grows. The airline is designed to improve regional connectivity, particularly for travelers in smaller towns and remote areas that have long been underserved by larger carriers.

Gilani urged the airline’s leadership to keep fares affordable so that Pakistanis from all income levels, who often struggle with high air travel costs, can benefit. He emphasized that even lawmakers sometimes find it difficult to afford expensive flight tickets.

According to South Air’s official mission statement, the airline believes everyone deserves access to reliable air travel, whether to reunite with family, access better opportunities, or simply travel in comfort. The airline’s tagline emphasizes they are offering “not just flights, but launching possibilities.”

The new airline will serve students traveling for education, families visiting relatives in distant cities, and workers and entrepreneurs seeking business opportunities. By connecting previously hard-to-reach destinations, South Air hopes to boost local economic development and tourism while strengthening national unity through improved connectivity.
