Islamabad’s Rs. 1.4 Billion Flyover Completed in Just 90 Days, Two Months Before Deadline

Islamabad’s major new flyover at T‑Chowk is now ready, and the Capital Development Authority says the main work was finished much faster than planned. The 1.1‑kilometre flyover cost about Rs. 1.4 billion and was built at the busy junction of G.T. Road and the Islamabad Expressway to help reduce heavy traffic from the Lahore side of the city.

Officials had originally set February 19, 2026, as the completion date under the project plan. Instead, construction teams completed the main structure in just 90 days, nearly two months before that date. Only small finishing tasks are still left before the flyover can be officially opened.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif laid the foundation stone for the project on September 12, 2025. Government and CDA officials praised the fast work, saying good planning and leadership helped speed up the build.

To improve traffic flow even more, the project was updated during construction to include an extra lane and additional U‑turns. This raised the cost by about 15 percent, but officials said the changes were allowed under procurement rules and would make the road more useful for drivers.

The flyover is expected to ease traffic around one of Islamabad’s busiest entry points, especially for commuters coming from Rawalpindi and Punjab. It links major routes and should help cut delays on daily journeys.

Work also continues on the nearby Shaheen Chowk underpass, another traffic project that is progressing quickly. Like the flyover, it could be completed ahead of its original deadline.

The early finish is being seen as a win for the city and for the authority overseeing the project, showing that large infrastructure work can be done faster with focused effort.
