CM Punjab Maryam Nawaz Announces Free 3-5 Acres of Agricultural Land for Poor Families

by Mahnoor Arif

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced a major welfare initiative aimed at supporting poor and landless families across the province.

Under the new scheme, the Punjab government will provide free 3 to 5 acres of government-owned agricultural land to deserving families to help them earn a stable livelihood and reduce poverty in rural areas.

According to official statements, the program is part of the provincial government’s broader plan to promote inclusive economic growth and strengthen the agricultural sector.

By giving land ownership to poor families, the government aims to empower them to become self-reliant farmers rather than daily wage laborers. Agriculture remains a key source of income in Punjab, and access to land is seen as a critical step toward long-term financial stability.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said the initiative is designed to uplift marginalized communities and ensure that economic opportunities reach those who need them most.

The land will be allotted from unused or state-owned agricultural land, and priority will be given to families with no existing land holdings. Transparent selection criteria and proper verification processes are expected to be introduced to ensure fair distribution.

Experts believe the move could have a positive impact on rural employment, food production, and poverty reduction if implemented effectively. However, they also stress the need for additional support, such as access to seeds, water, training, and credit, to help new landowners make productive use of the land.

The announcement has been widely welcomed, with many seeing it as a significant step toward social welfare and rural development in Punjab.
