Pakistan Imposes Immediate Ban on All Kinds of Drones

by Mahnoor Arif

The Government of Pakistan has announced an immediate ban on all types of drones across the country. The decision applies to recreational, commercial, and privately owned drones. Officials said the step has been taken due to rising security concerns and the possible misuse of aerial devices.

The ban will remain in place for 60 days and covers all provinces. However, law enforcement agencies and intelligence institutions are exempt from the restriction. Authorities have directed provincial governments to strictly enforce the order to maintain public safety.

The government has implemented the ban under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code. This law allows local administrations to restrict certain activities in the interest of public safety. Under this order, Station House Officers, known as SHOs, have the authority to register cases against individuals who violate the ban. Legal action may include fines or other penalties as determined by law.

In Sindh, the provincial administration has separately announced a similar restriction on drones, unmanned aerial vehicles, quadcopters, and heli cams. Officials stated that the aim is to prevent unauthorized surveillance, protect sensitive locations, and avoid security risks during tense situations.

In recent years, drones have become popular for photography, filming, agriculture, and business use. However, authorities have repeatedly raised concerns about their use near airports, government buildings, and public gatherings. Security experts say temporary restrictions are often introduced during sensitive periods to prevent threats.

The government has advised citizens and businesses to follow the order strictly until further notice. Officials said the situation will be reviewed after 60 days before any new decision is announced.
