Fuel-Saving Measures! Work From Home Policy Submitted to PM Shehbaz Sharif

by Mahnoor Arif

The government has submitted a proposal to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif suggesting temporary work from home arrangements to reduce fuel use in the country. The recommendation came from a government committee formed to monitor petrol prices and energy supply.

Officials say the proposal is part of precautionary steps as tensions in the Middle East could affect global oil supply. Although Pakistan currently has enough petroleum reserves for the coming weeks, authorities want to prepare early in case international supply routes face disruption.

Under the suggested plan, government offices and some private organizations may adopt work from home schedules for certain days. The proposal also includes online classes for schools and universities if the situation worsens. By reducing daily travel, the government hopes to lower fuel consumption across major cities.

The committee also recommended fewer working days in some sectors and greater use of digital meetings instead of physical gatherings. These steps are expected to reduce traffic on roads and cut petrol demand.

In addition, authorities are planning stricter action against fuel hoarding and smuggling. Officials believe illegal storage and cross border smuggling often worsen shortages during uncertain periods.

The government is also reviewing petrol prices on a weekly basis to respond quickly to changes in the international oil market. Experts say these measures are meant to protect fuel supplies while ensuring that economic activity and public services continue without major disruption.
