“No Closure of Schools, No Online Classes!” Punjab Education Minister

by Mahnoor Arif

The Punjab Government Pakistan has confirmed that schools across the province will continue normal classes and there are no plans to close educational institutions or shift to online learning.

Rana Sikandar Hayat dismissed rumors circulating on social media that schools might be shut down due to possible energy saving measures. He said both public and private schools will follow the regular academic schedule and continue in person classes.

The minister explained that schools are currently conducting important assessments for students from Grade VIII to Grade XII. These evaluations are part of the academic calendar and are necessary to track student progress before final examinations.

Speculation about possible school closures had increased after discussions about energy conservation in the country. Rising global oil prices and recent tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran had led to concerns that governments might reduce working hours or introduce work from home policies to save fuel.

However, provincial authorities clarified that no decision has been taken to suspend in person education in Punjab. Officials said the education department wants to ensure that students complete their studies and assessments without interruption.

Education experts also say regular classroom learning remains important for student performance and development. The government has therefore advised parents and students not to pay attention to unverified news about school closures.
