Pakistan Reduces Waiting Time for Passport from 21 to 14 Days

by Mahnoor Arif

The Government of Pakistan has reduced the delivery time for ordinary passports from 21 days to 14 days, offering relief to thousands of applicants across the country. The decision is aimed at improving efficiency and reducing long waiting periods at passport offices.

The new timeline has been implemented immediately, according to officials. The move was approved during a high level meeting chaired by Mohsin Naqvi, where key reforms in passport services were discussed.

Pakistan has seen a rise in passport applications in recent years due to increased overseas employment and travel demand. Long delays had become a common issue, with many applicants waiting weeks or even months in some cases. By cutting processing time, the government hopes to improve public service delivery and ease pressure on citizens.

Officials also reviewed plans to improve the home delivery system so people can receive passports more conveniently. A new business passport category is under consideration as well, which may help frequent travelers and professionals.

In addition, authorities plan to introduce a fully cashless payment system within the next 15 days. This step is expected to reduce delays, increase transparency, and limit manual errors in the process.

The reforms are part of broader efforts to modernize public services and make government systems more efficient and user friendly.
