Spotify has announced a new “Verified by Spotify” badge to help users tell real human artists apart from AI-generated music. The green checkmark will appear on artist profiles and in search results. It shows that the artist behind the profile is a real person who meets Spotify’s standards for authenticity.
As AI-made songs and fake artist personas grow quickly on streaming platforms, many listeners feel confused. Spotify wants to bring more trust and clarity. The company announced the feature on April 30, 2026. The badge is now rolling out in the coming weeks.
To get the verified badge, artists must show consistent listener engagement over time. They also need to follow Spotify’s rules and prove they have a real presence. This includes live concerts, merchandise for sale, active social media accounts, or other signs of an identifiable artist. Profiles that are mostly AI-generated or represent virtual AI personas will not qualify for the badge, at least for now.
Spotify says over 99% of artists that people actively search for will receive the badge at launch. This covers hundreds of thousands of musicians, mostly independent artists from different genres and countries. The platform is also testing new artist profile details, such as past releases and shows, to give fans better information.
This move comes as AI music floods platforms. Spotify hopes the simple green checkmark will help fans discover and support genuine human creators more easily.
