NDMA Warns of Heavy Rain, Hail and Storms in Several Parts of Pakistan

by Mahnoor Arif

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a nationwide alert for thunderstorms, heavy rain, strong winds, and possible hailstorms across several parts of Pakistan in the next 12 to 24 hours. A westerly weather system is affecting the upper and central regions of the country.

The warning covers Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and parts of northern Balochistan. Cities such as Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Murree, Peshawar, and Sialkot may experience intense weather. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) also expects gusty winds and isolated hail.

Authorities have cautioned that strong winds and hail may damage weak houses, solar panels, vehicles, and trees. Heavy rain could cause localised flooding, slippery roads, traffic problems, and power outages. In northern hilly areas, there is a risk of landslides and glacial lake outburst floods (GLOF).

NDMA has advised citizens to stay alert, avoid unnecessary travel, and not cross flooded streams or weak bridges. Tourists planning trips to northern areas should check the latest weather updates before travelling. People living in vulnerable areas should secure their belongings and stay indoors during storms.

Citizens should follow safety guidelines issued by NDMA and local authorities to stay safe during this unstable weather.
