Pakistan Seeks Early Launch of Direct Flights to US

by Mahnoor Arif

Pakistan is actively working to start direct flights to the United States. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has held important meetings with senior US officials in Islamabad to push this initiative forward.

During the discussions, both sides expressed commitment to strengthening bilateral ties based on mutual trust and cooperation. The talks also covered regional peace, recent developments in the Middle East, and security arrangements for American companies working on the Reko Diq mining project in Balochistan.

The move comes at a time when Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has successfully resumed direct flights to London after a six-year break. This success has raised hopes for further expansion of international routes, including direct connections to the US.

Direct flights between Pakistan and the United States would greatly benefit trade, business, tourism, and people-to-people contacts. Currently, Pakistanis traveling to the US have to take connecting flights through Europe or the Middle East, which is time-consuming and expensive.

The government believes that launching direct flights will open new doors for economic cooperation and strengthen the long-standing relationship between the two countries. Officials are optimistic that positive progress will be made soon on this important aviation link.
