The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has introduced a major change in the CNIC issuance process by making signatures optional for first-time applicants.
Under the new rules, applicants who are unable to sign will now have “NA” (Not Applicable) printed in the signature field on their Computerized National Identity Card. This decision aims to simplify the registration process and make it easier for illiterate citizens, people with disabilities, and those who cannot sign due to any reason.
NADRA has also clarified that thumb impressions or any other alternative marks will not be printed on the CNIC. This step has been taken to maintain high security standards and prevent forgery or misuse of identity documents.
The authority believes the updated policy will bring more transparency, reduce complications, and improve accessibility for millions of Pakistanis. It is especially helpful for individuals living in remote areas who often face difficulties during CNIC applications.
Citizens applying for their first CNIC are advised to follow the new guidelines at NADRA centres. This inclusive move has been widely welcomed as it shows NADRA’s efforts to modernize the system while respecting the needs of all segments of society.
