The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will meet today, Sunday, May 17, 2026, in Karachi to sight the crescent moon of Zilhajj (Dhul-Hijjah). This important meeting will determine the exact date of Eid ul Adha in Pakistan.

According to officials, if the moon is sighted today, the 1st of Zilhajj will begin tomorrow (May 18), and Eid ul Adha will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 27, 2026. However, if the moon is not sighted, Eid ul Adha will likely fall on Thursday, May 28.

Chairman of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, along with other members, will observe the moon from different parts of the country, especially coastal areas where chances of sighting are usually higher.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia has also urged its citizens and residents to report any confirmed sighting of the Zilhajj moon. The Kingdom’s announcement holds special importance as many Muslims around the world follow Saudi moon sightings for religious occasions.

Eid ul Adha, also known as Bakra Eid, is one of the biggest Islamic festivals. Millions of Muslims in Pakistan are waiting eagerly for the official announcement. Markets are already busy with last-minute shopping, and animal markets are full of activity.

The final announcement regarding the Eid date is expected late tonight after the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee meeting.
