Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) is on track to become Pakistan’s first fully cashless province. The provincial government plans to shift all person-to-government (P2G) payments to digital mode by September 1, 2026. This major reform aims to reduce cash handling, stop revenue leakage, and increase government income.
Officials expect the move to boost annual revenue by over Rs 29 billion — nearly 70 percent more than current collections. The change is powered by the “Mahasil” (revenue) app. Citizens can now easily pay fees, fines, licenses, and other charges using QR codes, Raast, and 1-Link digital platforms. Money goes straight into the provincial treasury.
So far, KP has digitized 148 out of 172 public services. The remaining services will be completed soon. Early results are encouraging: arms license revenue jumped from Rs 1.45 billion in 2022 to Rs 2.50 billion in 2025. Fine collections by assistant commissioners rose by 69 percent after going digital.
This initiative will bring more transparency, cut corruption, and make payments faster and safer for citizens. The government is also amending rules through the Finance Act 2026 to support the full transition.
