Pakistan is considering importing gas and oil from Iran to meet its growing energy needs. Defence Minister Khawaja Asif recently said that talks are underway to boost trade and economic ties between the two countries.
The Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project, signed in 2009, has been delayed for years due to international sanctions on Iran and funding issues. The pipeline would bring Iranian natural gas to Pakistan, especially helping the Balochistan region.
Asif noted that if sanctions on Iran are eased, Pakistan could benefit greatly. Cheaper energy imports would lower costs, improve electricity supply, and support economic growth. Balochistan would gain the most through better trade, jobs, and development.
Recent diplomatic efforts, including possible US-Iran agreements, have raised hopes for progress. Pakistan and Iran have also reaffirmed their commitment to resolving pipeline issues through dialogue.
