Pakistan Launches Rs4.5 Billion Nationwide Chip Design Training Program for Engineers

by urooj Fatima

Pakistan has introduced a Rs4.5 billion nationwide chip design training program to prepare engineers for careers in the global semiconductor industry. The initiative aims to build a highly skilled workforce that can support the country’s growing technology sector and strengthen its role in advanced electronics.

The program will provide specialized training in integrated circuit (IC) design, semiconductor engineering and electronic design automation (EDA). Engineering students, recent graduates and young professionals from across Pakistan will be eligible to participate through selected universities and technology institutions.

Officials say the project is designed to bridge the gap between academic education and industry needs. Participants will receive hands-on training from experienced local and international experts, helping them develop practical skills using modern chip design tools and technologies.

The government believes the initiative will create high-value jobs, encourage innovation and support the growth of Pakistan’s technology industry. A stronger pool of skilled engineers is also expected to attract foreign investment, strengthen local technology companies and increase Pakistan’s participation in the global semiconductor supply chain.

Industry experts have welcomed the initiative, noting that demand for chip designers and semiconductor engineers continues to rise worldwide due to rapid growth in artificial intelligence (AI), smart devices and digital technologies. They believe the program will help Pakistani engineers compete in international markets and contribute to cutting-edge technology projects.

Officials said the Rs4.5 billion investment reflects Pakistan’s commitment to building a knowledge-based economy. By investing in advanced technical education, the country aims to develop future technology leaders, accelerate digital transformation and support long-term economic growth.
