Pakistan’s affordable car market may be entering a new era as Chinese automaker Kaiyi has introduced its E04 electric hatchback, offering a claimed driving range of 300 kilometers on a single charge. With an introductory price of Rs. 3.99 million, the new EV is being positioned as a practical and budget-friendly alternative to traditional petrol-powered hatchbacks.

The Kaiyi E04 has been launched through Q Autos, the company’s local partner in Pakistan. Designed primarily for city driving, the compact electric hatchback features a modern exterior, spacious cabin, fast-charging capability, and several convenience features that appeal to daily commuters. Buyers booking the vehicle during the launch promotion may also receive a complimentary 7kW home charger.

Although the price is significantly higher than a brand-new Suzuki Alto, the E04 targets customers looking to reduce long-term fuel and maintenance expenses. With rising petrol prices and increasing interest in electric mobility, the vehicle could become an attractive option for urban drivers who travel moderate distances each day.

Kaiyi has also confirmed a 400km-range variant, priced at Rs. 4.69 million, giving customers another choice if they require longer driving distances. Deliveries for the 300km model are expected to begin later this year, while the higher-range version is scheduled to arrive earlier.

The launch reflects Pakistan’s growing shift toward electric vehicles, with several international manufacturers now introducing affordable EVs to the local market. As competition increases, consumers are expected to benefit from more choices, improved technology, and lower operating costs.

Whether it truly signals the beginning of the end for petrol-powered hatchbacks like the Alto remains to be seen, but the arrival of affordable electric cars is undoubtedly changing Pakistan’s automotive landscape.
