Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye will jointly decide their response if any one of the three countries comes under armed attack, Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has said.
Speaking to Al Arabiya English, the DG ISPR said the operational details of the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement remain classified and would not be publicly disclosed for security reasons. He explained that the three countries’ leadership would determine how the agreement would be implemented in the event of an attack.
The Makkah Joint Defence Agreement was signed by Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye on August 7, 2026. The agreement states that an armed attack against any one of the three countries will be regarded as an attack against all three, strengthening their collective deterrence and defence cooperation.
Lieutenant General Chaudhry described the agreement as defensive and said it has no aggressive or regional expansionist objectives. He added that the pact is complementary to the countries’ existing relationships and alliances rather than being directed against another alliance or country.
The clarification comes amid heightened regional tensions and renewed attention on the agreement following reported attacks involving Saudi Arabia.
Pakistan has maintained that the pact is intended to promote collective security, deterrence and regional stability. The operational mechanism and specific military measures that could be taken following an attack have not been made public.
