The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has formally refused to send the national team to India for the 2026 Men’s Asian Champions Trophy, requesting that the tournament be moved to a neutral country or that Pakistan’s matches be played at neutral venues.
PHF President Mohyuddin Ahmed Wani said the request was made because of the current sensitive situation between Pakistan and India and security concerns. He said the objective is to provide a safe and suitable environment for Pakistan’s players and officials.
The PHF clarified that Pakistan is not withdrawing from the tournament and remains committed to participating. Wani said Pakistan is ready to play against India and other International Hockey Federation (FIH) member nations, while maintaining that sports should remain separate from politics.
The Asian Champions Trophy is scheduled for October 27 to November 5, 2026, in Jalandhar and Mohali, with Pakistan, India, China, Japan, Malaysia and South Korea expected to participate. Pakistan and India are scheduled to face each other on November 1.
However, Hockey India Secretary General Bhola Nath Singh has said there will be no change in the venue and that Pakistan would have to travel to India to participate.
The Asian Hockey Federation will now have to consider Pakistan’s request and decide whether an alternative arrangement can be made.
