Students across Lahore are set to benefit from a new “Libraries on Wheels” project aimed at bringing books and digital learning facilities directly to schools.
Under the initiative, 55 electric library vehicles will be handed over to the Lahore Education Authority. Each vehicle will be equipped with 22 tablets and an LED screen, allowing students to access digital educational content alongside traditional library resources.
According to officials, each mobile library will serve approximately 100 schools, allowing educational resources to reach students across different areas of Lahore. During the initial phase, the electric library vehicles will be stationed at selected pilot schools before providing services to other schools.
Charging facilities for the electric vehicles will be arranged at schools to support their regular operation.
The project is designed to encourage reading habits among students while also expanding access to modern digital learning tools. By using mobile facilities, schools without large or fully equipped libraries will also be able to provide students with additional educational resources.
The initiative is part of Punjab’s broader efforts to improve access to education and introduce technology-based learning facilities in government schools.
Earlier plans for the project included electric vehicles equipped with tablets and LED screens, with the mobile libraries scheduled to visit schools according to a fixed timetable.
The latest plan is expected to bring library and digital learning facilities to a large number of students across Lahore through the 55-vehicle fleet.
