Pakistan Locally Assembles 18.66 Million Mobile Phones in 8 Months

Pakistan’s local mobile phone manufacturing industry assembled 18.66 million mobile phones during the first eight months of 2026, reflecting the growing role of domestic production in meeting the country’s demand for handsets.

According to official data, local manufacturers assembled far more phones than the number imported commercially during the same period. Around 8 million locally assembled devices were smartphones, while approximately 11 million were 2G phones.

The figures show that local assembly continues to play an important role in Pakistan’s mobile phone market and helps reduce dependence on fully assembled imported devices. In 2025, local plants assembled more than 30 million mobile phones throughout the year.

However, the production of 5G-enabled devices remains comparatively limited. Industry data indicates that manufacturers assembled about 134,501 5G phones in August 2026, compared with a significantly higher figure during the same month last year.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s commercial mobile phone imports also declined during the first two months of the current fiscal period. The reduction in imports comes as local manufacturers continue to supply a large portion of the domestic market.

Pakistan has encouraged local mobile phone assembly as part of its broader efforts to develop the technology and electronics sector, create employment opportunities and reduce pressure on foreign exchange reserves.

With millions of devices now being assembled locally each year, the mobile phone industry is becoming an increasingly important part of Pakistan’s domestic manufacturing sector.
