The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has made it easier for Pakistani citizens to update their Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) information through its PakID mobile application, allowing applicants to request changes without visiting a registration centre.
According to recent reports published on October 12, 2026, citizens can use the online facility to update their photographs and permanent addresses, as well as other eligible identity card details. The service aims to make the process more convenient and reduce the need for in-person visits.
To use the service, applicants must log in to the official PakID application and select the “Identity Card” option. They can then choose “Myself” to update their own details or “My Blood Relatives” to apply for an eligible family member.
After selecting the relevant applicant, users need to choose the “Update Card” option, enter the required information and follow the instructions to submit their application.
The online service is part of NADRA’s broader efforts to digitise identity-related services and improve public access. The authority also offers online applications for CNIC modification, renewal and replacement through its official digital platform.
However, applicants may still need to provide supporting documents or complete additional verification, depending on the type of change requested.
For citizens living in rented accommodation, NADRA has also outlined documentation requirements for residential address updates. These may include a rental agreement, an affidavit from the landlord or an eligible utility bill.
Pakistanis are advised to use NADRA’s official website or the PakID application to confirm the latest requirements, applicable fees and application status before submitting their requests.
The facility is expected to make routine identity card updates more accessible, particularly for people who face difficulties travelling to NADRA registration centres.
