The Rs46.64 billion Rawalpindi Ring Road project has reached its final stage. Officials say over 90% of the construction work is now complete. The 38.6-kilometre road is expected to open for traffic on June 15, 2026. It will initially start through the GT Road Baanth interchange.
This six-lane road will connect key areas from Baanth on the Grand Trunk Road to the Thalian Interchange near the Lahore-Islamabad Motorway. Major interchanges at Baanth, Chak Beli Khan, Adiala, and Chakri are finished. The Thallian interchange will open later.
The project started construction in 2023 after some delays. It aims to reduce heavy traffic in Rawalpindi city centre. Thousands of vehicles will use the new road every day. This will save travel time and cut congestion on busy city roads.
The ring road will greatly improve connectivity between Rawalpindi, Islamabad, and nearby highways. It is expected to support economic growth by making transport faster and cheaper for goods and people. Plans are underway to build industrial estates along the corridor. These will attract new factories, create jobs, and boost investment in the region.
Local people and businesses are excited about the opening. The road will help real estate development and bring new opportunities to surrounding areas. Punjab government officials are working to finish the remaining work quickly so people can start using it soon.
This project is a big step toward better infrastructure in Punjab. It will make daily travel easier and help the local economy grow stronger in the coming years.
