Pakistan Aims to Attract 50,000 Russian Tourists and Generate $1 Billion Annually

Pakistan aims to attract up to 50,000 Russian tourists every year and generate $1 billion in annual revenue from them, according to Pakistan’s Ambassador to Russia, Faisal Niaz Tirmizi.

The ambassador said global shifts in travel patterns and unrest in the Middle East have created new opportunities for Pakistan as a safe and attractive destination. Russian outbound tourism has dropped from 24 million to about 15 million travellers, opening the door for alternative spots like Pakistan.

Pakistan’s northern areas, including Skardu, Hunza, and the Hazara region, offer stunning adventure tourism, beautiful landscapes, and a rich culture that can appeal to Russian visitors. The government is improving roads, hotels, and other facilities to make travel easier and more comfortable.

Ambassador Tirmizi suggested starting with small group tours through reliable operators and gradually increasing numbers. Russian tourists typically spend between $1,000 and $5,000 per trip, which could bring significant economic benefits to local communities.

In 2025, Pakistan welcomed over one million international tourists, showing an impressive 820 percent increase compared to previous years. This strong growth gives confidence for the new Russian tourism push.

Coordinated promotion campaigns, better airline connections, and digital marketing will play a key role in achieving the target. Officials believe focused efforts can turn Pakistan into a preferred destination for Russian travellers and boost the country’s tourism economy.
