Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has launched the “Apna Khet, Apna Rozgar” scheme to help landless farmers and boost rural growth in the province.

This big project, worth Rs160 billion, will give out 124,374 acres of government agricultural land to poor families who have no land of their own. It aims to create jobs and support sustainable farming in villages.

The scheme will benefit around 88,780 families through 13,812 lots spread across different districts of Punjab. In the Cholistan area, another 16,685 lots will help over 101,000 families in total. Selected farmers will get plots of land worth between Rs2.5 million to Rs4 million each. They will also receive a one-time cash grant of Rs50,000 to Rs250,000 per acre to develop the land for farming.

Under the program, land will be given on a 10-year lease with no rent. This will allow unemployed rural people to grow crops and earn a steady income. The government says the scheme will increase farm output, reduce poverty, and make villages stronger. Farmers may also get help with seeds, tools, and training in modern farming methods.

This initiative is part of the Punjab government’s efforts to support small farmers and create self-employment in the countryside. Many see it as a step towards better rural development and food security in the province.

Applications are expected to open soon for eligible landless families.
