TikTok Founder Surpasses Mukesh Ambani as Asia’s Second-Richest Person

Zhang Yiming, the founder of ByteDance and creator of TikTok, has become Asia’s second-richest person. According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, his net worth has reached $92.8 billion as of June 3, 2026. He has overtaken Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani, who now stands at $86.9 billion.

Zhang, aged 43, is also China’s richest person. Gautam Adani of India remains the richest in Asia with around $117 billion. Zhang owns about 21% of ByteDance, which is now valued at around $481 billion. The sharp rise in the company’s value comes from TikTok’s huge global success and strong growth in artificial intelligence.

ByteDance’s AI chatbot Doubao has gained over 300 million monthly users, boosting investor confidence. Since Bloomberg started tracking Zhang’s wealth in 2019, when he was worth $13 billion, his fortune has grown more than seven times.

This achievement shows the growing power of technology and digital platforms in creating massive wealth. Zhang stepped down as CEO of ByteDance in 2021 but still benefits greatly from the company’s performance. Experts say this shift highlights how innovation in AI and social media is changing global wealth rankings.

Many see Zhang’s success as a symbol of China’s rising tech strength. While Ambani built his empire in oil, telecom, and retail, Zhang represents the new digital economy.
