The Punjab government has asked for help from the Pakistan Army and Rangers to keep Muharram-ul-Haram peaceful and safe. The Home Department sent a formal letter to the federal Interior Ministry requesting a total of 137 companies of security forces. This includes 61 companies from the Pakistan Army and 76 companies from the Pakistan Rangers.
These forces will be deployed across 39 districts of Punjab from the 1st to the 11th of Muharram. Their main job is to help local police maintain law and order, protect religious processions (majalis), and stop any trouble from terrorists or miscreants. Officials say the current security situation requires strong arrangements for the safety of all citizens.
Punjab Police will work closely with the Army and Rangers. The plan includes multi-layer security with CCTV cameras, walk-through gates, metal detectors, and strict checking at important places. Only approved processions and gatherings will be allowed on fixed routes. Unauthorized events will not be permitted.
The move shows the provincial government’s focus on foolproof security during this holy month. Muharram 2026 is expected to see large gatherings, especially on Ashura days. People hope these steps will help everyone observe the month in peace without any sectarian tension or violence. Final approval from the federal government is awaited.
