Traveling to Japan is set to become more expensive for Pakistani citizens and travelers from over 100 other countries.
Japan has announced a sharp increase in visa fees, with the new charges taking effect from July 1, 2026. The updated fee structure will apply to countries that require a visa to enter Japan, including Pakistan.
Under the new rules, the cost of a single-entry visa will increase from 3,000 yen to 15,000 yen, while a multiple-entry visa will rise from 6,000 yen to 30,000 yen.
Transit visa fees have also been increased. Japanese authorities said the decision was made after reviewing the country’s visa system for the first time in nearly 50 years.
Officials explained that the previous fees had remained unchanged since 1978, even though inflation, higher operating costs, and changes in currency values have significantly increased the cost of processing visa applications.
For Pakistani travelers, the change means higher expenses for tourism, business trips, study, and family visits.
Anyone submitting a visa application on or after July 1 will have to pay the revised charges. Applications submitted before that date will continue under the existing fee structure.
Despite the increase, Japan believes the new prices will keep its visa system in line with those of other developed countries.
Officials also expect international tourism to remain strong, as Japan continues to attract visitors with its culture, technology, natural beauty, and historic attractions.
Travelers planning to visit Japan are encouraged to check the latest visa requirements before applying and prepare for the higher application costs.
The revised fees are expected to affect millions of visa applicants worldwide, including those from Pakistan.
