The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has officially launched the “KP Open Wi-Fi” initiative, bringing free internet access to several major public locations across Peshawar. The project aims to improve digital connectivity, support education, and make online services more accessible for residents and visitors.

During the inauguration ceremony, Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi said the first phase of the project will provide free Wi-Fi at major government hospitals, public transport terminals, and other key public facilities in Peshawar. The initiative is designed to help citizens stay connected while accessing essential services and traveling within the city.

The provincial government also announced that all public universities and colleges in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will receive free Wi-Fi connectivity under the program. Officials believe the move will strengthen digital learning, research opportunities, and online access for students across the province.

According to the chief minister, the project is part of the government’s broader vision to promote digital governance, public convenience, and technological inclusion. Authorities expect the initiative to encourage greater use of e-government services while reducing barriers to internet access in public spaces.

The government confirmed that the next phase will expand the Open Wi-Fi service to divisional headquarters, including Abbottabad, Mardan, Swat, Kohat, Bannu, and Dera Ismail Khan. This province-wide rollout is expected to extend the benefits of free internet access to more communities in the coming months.

Officials described the initiative as a significant step toward building a digitally connected Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, enabling citizens to access educational resources, government services, and online opportunities more easily while promoting economic and social development across the province.
