Pakistan’s First Astronaut Set to Launch Into Space on November 25

Pakistan is preparing for a historic milestone in space exploration, as the country’s first astronaut is scheduled to embark on a space mission from China on November 25, 2026. Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal announced the development on October 18.

The mission is part of Pakistan’s growing cooperation with China in space science and technology. The selected astronaut is expected to travel to China’s Tiangong space station and participate in scientific research.

Two Pakistani pilots, Muhammad Zeeshan Ali and Khurram Daud, were selected as candidates for the mission in April 2026. Both have undergone specialised training in China, including preparation for spaceflight and working in microgravity. However, the final selection of the astronaut has not been publicly confirmed in the reports announcing the November 25 date.

During the mission, the Pakistani astronaut is expected to serve as a payload specialist, conducting scientific experiments rather than operating the spacecraft. The research is intended to contribute to scientific understanding in areas such as biotechnology, food security and climate change.

Speaking at the concluding ceremony of World Space Week in Narowal, Ahsan Iqbal also announced Pakistan’s ambition to achieve a lunar landing by 2035. He highlighted the importance of space technology for agriculture, communications, climate monitoring, education and national security.

The government also plans to establish Pakistan’s first space museum at the University of Narowal to promote scientific awareness and encourage young people to pursue careers in science and technology.

The planned mission represents a major step in Pakistan’s participation in human spaceflight. Through cooperation with China, Pakistan aims to expand its research capabilities and strengthen its role in future space exploration.
