Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has nominated aviation executive Adrian Hamilton-Manns as its next chief executive officer, marking a significant leadership development for the national carrier following its transition to private management. His appointment is expected to take effect by the end of October 2026, subject to security and other necessary clearances.
According to reports published on October 17, the nomination has not yet been formally finalised. Hamilton-Manns is expected to lead efforts to improve PIA’s operational efficiency, financial performance and overall business strategy.
Hamilton-Manns brings nearly three decades of experience in the international aviation industry. He served as chief executive of Oman-based low-cost airline SalamAir from 2024 until the recent leadership transition in 2026. Before that, he led Kazakhstan’s FlyArystan as president and CEO from 2020 to 2024.
His professional background also includes senior commercial positions at India’s IndiGo, South African Airways, Virgin Australia’s Pacific Blue and Indonesia’s Mandala Airlines. He began his aviation career at Air New Zealand in 1997. <Cite refs={[“turn307133search0″,”turn307133search3”]}/>
The nomination comes as PIA undergoes major changes following the transfer of management control to an Arif Habib-led consortium on June 29, 2026. The new management faces the challenge of addressing longstanding financial losses, operational inefficiencies and fleet-related difficulties.
Although Hamilton-Manns has extensive experience with low-cost airlines, PIA operates as a full-service carrier, presenting different operational and commercial challenges.
If his appointment is confirmed, his priorities are expected to include strengthening the airline’s financial position, improving service standards and making operations more efficient.
His nomination represents an important step in PIA’s management transition, although the airline’s future performance will depend on the implementation of effective reforms and sustainable business strategies.
