WhatsApp is testing a new feature that lets users scan documents directly using their phone’s camera within the app. This tool is part of the WhatsApp beta version 2.25.19.21 for Android and is currently being tested by selected beta users through the Google Play Store.
The feature can be found in the document-sharing section of the app. A new “Scan Document” option appears, which opens the camera and shows a live preview. This helps users position their documents correctly before scanning, making the process easier and more accurate without the need for external apps.
Once the camera is open, users can pick between automatic and manual modes. The automatic mode captures the scan when the app detects the document is in place, while the manual mode allows users to take the picture themselves perfect for tricky lighting or careful alignment.
This update is especially helpful for people who regularly share documents like forms, receipts, or handwritten notes. With this feature, everything from scanning to sending can be done directly within WhatsApp, saving time and avoiding third-party apps.
