A new section has opened at the Hira Cultural Center near the sacred Cave Hira in Makkah. This new block displays rare Qur’anic manuscripts collected over the past 1,400 years, including what is believed to be the largest Qur’an in the world.
The Hira Cultural Center is located close to the mountain where Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) received the first revelation of the Holy Qur’an. The newly built Qur’an Museum inside the center allows visitors to learn about the history of the Qur’an — from its earliest handwritten forms to the latest methods of printing and preservation used today.
The museum also showcases several special exhibits, such as a piece of the covering of the Kaaba (known as the Ghilaf-e-Kaaba), a detailed model of the Kaaba’s door, and a life-like replica of the Cave Hira where the first verses of the Qur’an were revealed.
Every day, hundreds of visitors, including locals and pilgrims, come to the center to explore these treasures. They walk through the exhibits to understand the journey of the Qur’an through time, to appreciate Islamic art and heritage, and to reflect on the spiritual message that began at Cave Hira more than 1,400 years ago.
